Primary Protein Structure
A protein is a polypeptide. It consists of many amino acids joined together by peptide bond. The primary structure of proteins generally means the way the amino acids are arranged in a straight line .by straight line or linear arrangement means that It starts from amine end (N terminal) and ends up in acid (C terminal).some times there is a cross linking because of disulfide bond, this cross linking due to disulfide bond is included in the primary structure of protein. Some time there are many modifications in the primary structure of protein due to various processes like racemization of the chiral center, formylation, acetylation etc.
The primary structure of a protein affects its tertiary structure to a great extent. In the diagram there is a primary structure of a protein.there are 129 amino acids molecule and the one end the N terminal starts with amine group and the last terminal ends in the carboxylic acid group. There is cross linked or disulfide linkages between the cystine molecule .
Know more about the Primary Protein Structure all through from my blog.
In the above diagram there is one terminal where amine group is present this is called the N- terminal and on the other end called the carboxylic acid group or C- end. In between there are many amino acids linked together with peptide bonding , in some places there are crossed linking between the cystine molecule by disulfide bonds.
These primary structure have are the important as they determine the there dimensional structure or the tertiary structure of protein, in complex protein like nucleic acid these primary structure are called sequence and they do not offer much insight in to the complex tertiary structure of these acids like RNA or DNA. Further there is lot of changing taking place in the primary structure of proteins like mentioned above like phosphorylation .aetylation ,carboxylation, myristoylation , glycolization etc.
